  • EA is rumoured to target Codemasters Studio closure

summary

  • EA can fire 400 employees, close Codemasters, integrate F1 developers, and tackle the need for new speeds.

  • The rumors come from reliable sources, but they are not official.

  • The Codemasters acquisition was aimed at boosting EA’s racing franchise, but only F1 is working well.

It appears that more layoffs are being planned by video game companies following Electronic Arts’ cancellation of the Black Panther game yesterday and closing the studio (Clliffhanger Games) working on it.

Now, the latest rumors suggest that one of EA’s latest studio acquisitions is not only facing layoffs, but also shutting the door completely.

EA is rumoured to target Codemasters Studio closure

F1 25 (15)

The latest rumors come from extas1 multiple times correct regarding insider info. According to Leaker (via machine translation), “The Black Panther cancellation is not the only one. We were able to find out that there are about 400 more layoffs coming in the EA.

extas1s is mostly reliable, but this is not official yet, so handle this news in a salt bag. That said, it makes sense given that EA recently killed the Rally Racing franchise, and is one of Codemasters’ bread and butter games.

CodeMasters was acquired by EA in 2021 for an astounding $1.2 billion of $1.2 billion, including F1, Project Car, Grid, Dirt, WRC and other race IPS. This was intended to enhance the needs of EA’s speed and Burnout Racing franchise, but since then only the F1 series has been working well.

Speaking of F1, the latest iteration of the franchise has just been released by EA, and our reviews are important but fair, saying, “EA Sports and Codemaster remind us of the best Formula 1 game ever. The problem here is to do this without error. The F125 has beautiful graphics. The series.”

If the rumors of Codemasters’ end mise are a real deal, we’ll soon hear officially from EA. If this is actually the case, I hope that those who were fired will be able to find employment soon.

If this is achieved, what will happen to the F1 series? Will Criterion or other first-party EA studios lead? There are many questions left unanswered.
