ILatest titles for D Software destiny The series was released on May 15th for Xbox Series X/s, PS5 and PC, and is almost on top (for those who purchased it on May 13th). It is also undoubtedly the most epic game in the franchise.
Destiny: Dark Ages Visiting the early points of Slayer’s life, he fought against the devil’s horde and truly gained a reputation as a Hellwalker. Its setting is full of medieval architecture, but lend a fantasy flavour and atmosphere you won’t see in the 2016 reboot Eternal destinythe technology powered by it is as cutting edge as they come.
It is equipped with ID Tech 8, the latest iteration of the developer’s proprietary software. Eternal destiny (However, I also used MachineGames. Indiana Jones and the Great). How would you improve it than its predecessor? So how is performance measured, especially on consoles?

Before we dig into its performance, it is worth paying attention to all the improvements. Destiny: Dark Ages It is brought to the table compared to Eternal destiny. Most obvious is the implementation of ray-traced global lighting, which adds a stunning new dimension to everything. The levels feel more naturally lit with realistic shadows, with some of the most notable examples being in the opening missions, with the smallest fires casting natural glows around, including nearby enemies. It’s also amazing to see rainy atmosphere illuminated, especially when a horde of enemies are waiting for a slayer, or when there is a flash of lightning.
This not only emphasizes the more detailed texture and environment, but also feels absolutely overflowing with details, but also more natural and lively. It is also added to destructible components of the environment. Eternal. You can see this at the opening level when filming wooden structures – they crumble realistically (though Jank was notable in some). On another level, hitting an enemy and sending the body to a nearby stone pillar will cause it to collapse slightly, release dust, and remove the stone from the impact.
Of course, ray trace reflections are well implemented. One notable example is the second mission to fight demons in a dark room, where you fight bodies and projectiles reflecting on wet floors, which increases the number of enemies. There is still a linear path to traverse and tight indoor environment to fight, but Destiny: Dark Ages It features a much more open environment. So it’s important to fill them with enemies, but the numbers are bigger and bigger EternalAt one point, dozens of people have been walking around.
This usually leads to doubt about performance, but there is good news.
PC Performance
One of the modern features destiny The series is scalability on PC Dark Ages There’s no difference. To run at 2160p/60 fps and ultra settings, you need an AMD Zen 3 CPU or a 12th Generation Intel CPU with 3.2 GHz and 8 cores. A ray-tracing enabled GPU is required across all recommended configurations provided by the RTX 4080 and AMD RX 7900 XT as examples. Finally, you’ll need an NVME SSD with 32 GB of RAM and 100 GB of installation space.
Our test rig consisted of an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, an Nvidia Geforce RTX 3080 Ti, an NVME SSD PCI-E 4.0 and 94 GB of RAM. Regarding settings, we chose a 3840 x 2160 resolution (with dynamic scaling), a 60 Hz refresh rate, a V-sink with triple buffering, and a 90-degree field of view. NVIDIA DLSS was upscaled in balanced mode, set to 46% with upscaling in balanced mode. Motion Blur has the quality set set to Ultra and you have selected all the other Ultra presets – Shadow quality, Reflection quality, Direction occlusion, you will give it a name.
Regarding performance, Destiny: Dark Ages Keep 60 FPS targets seamlessly even on screen enemies, projectiles, particles (particularly trails), and fast-paced actions that are occurring. The overall scale of the level is also impressive. This is not only because of the quality of the environment and background details (including larger enemies roaming around), but also because there is no pop-in or asset load. It’s a closely optimized experience that will shake your action wildly, whether you’re fighting on the ground or on the Atlan mecha.
PS5 performance
The PS5 version unfortunately only offers one mode and runs at 60 frames per second. There is an option to adjust the field of view and enable or disable color anomalies and depth of field. Motion blur can also be toggled with options to customize the amount, but otherwise there are no other graphics options.
On the bright side, the PS5 version does an amazing job of keeping up to the PC version from a performance standpoint. Even during the explosive action scenes, we didn’t face slowing down (at least nothing really stands out to hinder the experience). There is a noticeable difference in fidelity from the PC version, but I’ll explain this. However, considering the details, RTGI implementation and environmental scale, it is an incredible effort by ID software.
PC vs PS5 quality
As always, the PC version has excellent quality, but the PS5 version’s performance is unique. Even the loading times are roughly the same, and are very short whether you are moving from the main menu to the next campaign mission or directly from the cutscene to gameplay.
Comparing fidelity, it appears that dynamic resolution scaling is played on the PS5 version rather than on the PC, but I think this is due to a big difference in hardware. The PC version becomes clearer and all the individual details shine, but the image quality isn’t too big of a hit. Reflections traced to Ray also look sharper on PC, while the PS5 version produces slightly more distinct reflections on Puddles.
The differences are much more obvious when comparing them side by side, but the ID software did an impressive job with the PS5 version. It just talks more about the work put into the PC version (and this isn’t even the absolute best setting) to provide the most graphical experience.
Conclusion
Destiny: Dark Ages When it comes to optimized PC ports, it not only emphasizes the mastery of ID software, but also the ability to eliminate so much from the base PS5. A gorgeous atmosphere, a vast environment filled with all kinds of decals, impressive use of ray trace global lighting, and more than anything, smooth performance. While console players definitely won’t overlook the higher framerate options, the fact that they still show off and do this while maintaining 60 frames per second is still praised.
As it is (and fights), Destiny: Dark Ages Without a doubt, it’s Magnum Opus, the ID software. It’s a valuable showcase of the power of ID Tech 8, but more than anything, it increases the fidelity and bar for optimization of first-person shooters. I’d like to know how much the team can bring it to the future, but for now, Dark Ages It’s a top-notch visual east feast that you shouldn’t miss.
