summary
- PocketPair’s Palworld is very similar to Nintendo’s Pokemon
- Palworld is not available on Nintendo Switch due to technical limitations
- PocketPair is considering porting to Nintendo Switch 2 if possible
Like it or not, Pocket Pair Pal World has a strong connection to the Nintendo Pokemon franchise. Certainly, the gameplay may be different, but even themes, art, and even concepts borrowed in bulk from Nintendo’s Money Print IP, and Nintendo sued the Pocket Pair.
This is a bit strange why Palworld is available on almost any gaming device. Exclude Nintendo console, switch. It is not that pocket pairs refrain from releasing consoles, but primarily due to technical limitations.
Palworld developers are considering porting Palworld to Nintendo.
Talked to IGN at the Game Developers Conference (GDC), shared by PocketPair Communications Director John “Bucky” Buckley.
But since the Nintendo Switch 2 lives more horsepower under the hood, can you see it there? Bucky couldn’t confirm that, but stated that Pocket Pair was interested. However, the development team has not had the opportunity to check under the hood of Nintend’s upcoming consoles.
“We haven’t seen those specs yet… like everyone else, we’re waiting. I’m wandering around the GDC,” Bucky said.
“If it’s physical enough, it’s 100% worth considering. We did a lot of optimizations for the steam deck. It was really satisfying. We’re still working on what we do, but we’re really happy with how it turned out.
The big question here is, even if Nintendo’s Switch 2 could do that, will Nintendo even allow it? Considering that Nintendo is suing the developer for allegedly infringing the trademark, I think that’s a small possibility. When displayed on the console, it can dilute the essence of the lawsuit somewhat. Plus, given the Pocket Pair game that includes guns, I don’t think Nintendo wants a Pokemon brand to be associated with the same console as Palworld.
We already know what the Nintendo Switch 2 will look like based on the original announcement, but there are still many unanswered questions. Fortunately, Nintendo is scheduled to hold a new Nintendo in-person on April 2nd. This will cover the Nintendo Switch 2 in a wide range.
