CD Projekt Red has checked the installation size for CyberPunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on Nintendo Switch 2. This is smaller than the Xbox or PS5 (100-110GB), but for the Switch 2, 64GB is 25% of the console’s confirmed 256GB internal storage.
When released on the same day as Switch 2 on June 5th, Cyberpunk 2077 can be used as a physical 64GB gaming card or as a digital download from Nintendo’s eShop.
Nintendo recently confirmed that some new Switch 2 game cards do not always carry real games, but include keys for downloading games. This is not the case with Cyberpunk 2077.
However, this also raises the question of how quickly the internal storage of Switch 2 fills up.
Switch 2’s 256GB internal storage is a huge step up from the original switch’s 32GB. However, early signs already suggest that the Switch 2 game will be much bigger.
CyberPunk 2077 is a 64GB download, as we mentioned. In comparison, one of the biggest games on the original Switch, Tears of the Kingdom, was only 16GB. The Switch 2 version and other titles like the $80 Mario Kart World can require a significant amount of space.
An obvious solution? Expandable storage. The PS5 has it, the Xbox has it, and the Switch always supports it. However, unlike the original switch that accepted the standard MicroSD, MicroSDHC, and MicroSDXC cards, the Switch 2 is locked to MicroSD Express. This means that older microSD cards won’t work, and more importantly, you’ll need to buy new, particularly expensive memory cards.
As you know, the Passthecontroller’s Deals team has already tracked the highest prices for Switch 2 compatible MicroSD Express Cards, including 128GB ($44.99), 256GB ($49.99), 512GB ($99.99), and 1TB version ($199.99) Sandisk and Lexar options. However, some have already been snapped in large quantities and are currently listed as “temporarily out of stock” on Amazon.
Nintendo has also partnered with Sandisk and Samsung to release their own branded cards, but if history is any indication, it expects it to be more expensive than the same third-party version. Also, there is a possibility that more manufacturers will jump into the MicroSD Express market as the Switch 2 is driving demand, but we still don’t see if that will lead to lower prices.
