Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Cyberpunk 2 has officially entered pre-production, according to developer CD Projekt.
The studio made the announcement as part of its latest financial results. There, he said the Phantom Liberty expansion of Cyberpunk 2077 reached an impressive copy, selling 10 million copies.
96 of the developers of CD Projekt’s 730 are currently working on Cyberpunk 2. The majority of the staff (422) are working on the fully produced Witcher 4.
“A few weeks ago, the CD Projekt Red team responsible for the next big game set in the Cyberpunk universe completed the concept phase of the project,” said CD Projekt. “As a result, CyberPunk 2 – previously known as the codename project Orion – went on to pre-production.”
What is Pre-Production? In the world of AAA development, pre-production includes everything from conceptualization to planning full production, building prototypes, and upgrading studio staffing. In many cases, it can take years to complete.
Cyberpunk 2 still hears a long way. Certainly the same is true for The Witcher 4. But at least we know what CD Projekt calls the game after it was previously called the codename Orion.
Although we know little about Cyberpunk 2, earlier this month, Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith teased some previously unknown details. Pondsmith worked closely with CD Projekt on Cyberpunk 2077, which sells 30 million, and was involved in promoting the game ahead of its 2020 release, but was asked about the scope of his involvement with Orion at the Digital Dragons 2025 Conference.
In response, Pondsmith admitted he wasn’t that involved this time, but said he would review the script and go to CD Projekt to check on the work in progress.
“Last week I was talking to different departments and wandering around looking at what they had. “Yes, that’s pretty good, it works here.”
And the sequel sip features a brand new city, in addition to the night city we know from Cyberpunk 2077. Pondsmith described the new city as “it looks like Chicago was wrong.”
“I spent a lot of time talking to one of the guys in the environment. He was describing a new location in Orion because there is another city we visit. I’m not saying anything more, but there is another city we visit.
It is worth pointing out that Pondsmith’s comments do not necessarily suggest that the Cyberpunk sequel will feature future Chicago. feel The dystopian version of the city. It may be Chicago’s views of the future, but it has not been confirmed based on these comments.
We’re also discussing the range of playables already as to whether Cyberpunk 2 will expand the night city at CyberPunk 2077 or have a new version. There are many unknowns, but at least this sequel appears to have two physicalized, playful cities.
Of course, it’s a very busy time for CD Projekt. Following the well-received work by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, there is a new Cyberpunk animation project on Netflix. In shorter terms, the CyberPunk 2077 is set to be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 next month.
