Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the current beloved of the video game scene, but the concept of gaming is also special. Most games are developed by people who applied to the studio or were hired by agents, but for the lead writers of Expedition 33, the key to their employment was Reddit.
After all, game director Guillaume Broche was looking for voice actors on Reddit everywhere, so the game writer came across the post.
The lead writer of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 thought it was “cool” to call out for the character
Talking to the BBC, Expedition 33 lead writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen mentioned how she auditioned for the character after seeing a Reddit post during Covid lockdown.
“I saw a post about Guillaume’s Reddit. I asked the voice actor to record something for the demo.
Svedberg-Yen was initially cast as a central character in the early version of the game, but eventually switched roles to become the lead writer for Sandfall. It was never mentioned who the main character of Svedberg-yen was, or whether he was cut from the main game. If Reddit isn’t enough to hire, Lorien Testard, a game composer who has never worked on video games before, was discovered in a post on SoundCloud, a music sharing website.
“I call this the Guillaume effect. He’s really good at finding people who are really cool,” says Sveberg En.
Meanwhile, Guillaume praises his successful Hiling thanks to Covid and “Massive Luck.”
“I have a list of 15 people. “Well, I might not get anybody, and the first one is, ‘Yeah, let’s do it,’ he adds.
Whatever the Guillaume and Sandfall teams, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the highest rated game of 2025, selling over 1 million copies to date. Not only that, the game was even able to set up new records on the PSN.
What’s next in the studio? Nothing has been confirmed, but the huge success of the RPG could lead to future DLCs, but nothing.
