when Devil 4 The eighth season begins on April 29th, and the Battle Pass looks completely different. Instead of linear tracks, they are split into categories or relics to chase the adjustments of certain types of cosmetics in the Demon Slayer. Like many popular live service games that introduced more options in Battle Pass, the goal of Blizzard is to make sure people actually play it with how they play Diablo 4.
There were three issues with the old Battle Pass. Dan Tangai, senior manager of game design, spoke to passthecontroller in a recent interview. The rewards “didn’t feel that they were meaningful enough”, they were “essentially tied to the season”, and there was a general “lack of agency.”
In my experience, this is all true. I’ll jump on something new Diablo 4 The only thing I’ve taken a peek at the Battle Pass page for the season, I ended up forgetting it until I want to clear a notification telling me new things that have been unlocked. And in many cases, new cosmetics are for classes I wasn’t actively playing, and that’s what I did even less.
It appears to be the kind of experience Blizzard is trying to avoid in the Relic Box. This is a reinvention of the Battle Pass, where you can choose the reward you want first. Prices are still attached. Three of the four categories earn the previous cost before allowing them to unlock rewards, like Mini Premium Battle Pass. But if all you care about is the sparkling tiger from the Beast’s Relic Box instead of the flashy sword from the Relic Box of weapons, then you can skip it. And players who don’t mind starting new characters every season will also have access to the game’s eternal realm system.
Tanguay said the team felt the old battle pass sticking out in action RPGs, where meeting decisions are all about. “You basically choose all the choices that make up your build, you choose what you look like, and we have a very, very linear and very deterministic battle pass, and that said, ‘Wow, there aren’t many options here,'” he said.
Each remedy reward has a favor. This is a new currency that you can only earn by mowing monsters when you play. Everyone can use it from the free relic box to cosmetics during the season. The event’s relics are like launching at Diablo 4‘s Barselk The May collaboration will appear for a limited time only and require a unique currency. Tanguay couldn’t confirm whether he has his own relic box to return the event, but the team still said they were “talking” those opportunities.
The Holy House system is another step in Blizzard’s ongoing approach to reworking some of the lagging games. Tanguay added that by cutting off battle passes from the season, Blizzard can do more in the season journey. This is a free challenge like killing bosses, completing dungeons, and rewarding looting and cosmetics. These were often very easy so they are done by chance. However, Tanguay said the team is trying to complete the later chapters by bringing players “stretching and more enthusiastic types of content.” In Season 8, I found something that asked me to use certain seasonal powers to defeat one of the bosses in Endgame.
