- Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the second bestselling game in the US, Trailing Monster Hunter Wilds.
- The company will be funded by Tencent, a new subsidiary of Ubisoft, and house AC Shadow and two other major franchises.
- Despite mixed reviews, AC Shadows released a major update last week, including new features.
Ubisoft has already announced that sales of Assassin’s Creed Shadows are growing from the gate, but looking at the data, the feat is even more impressive.
This is exactly what Circana (formerly the NPD Group) did, and the research company has obtained important data that pleases Ubisoft.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is second in overall US sales in 2025, tracking only one game
According to Circana Executive Director Matt Piscaterra, Assassin’s Creed Shadows was accurate as of April 5th, and has become a bestselling game in the US for each of its first three weeks in the market, according to its retail tracking service (dollar sales).
The only game ahead of that? It’s nothing more than Monster Hunter Wilds, the title of the sale of Capcom’s historic proportions. Ubisoft has not said anything about Assassin’s Creed Shadows sales and player counts after 3 million on March 27th, but it’s safe to say that those numbers have been hit quite a bit since then.
This is the exact victory Ubisoft needs after being tanked hard in the latest famous release, Star Wars: Outlaws, retail. Unfortunately, there is a possibility that the publisher will do that in the future, but no breakdown of the sales is given.
There’s no word on what’s next for the franchise, but Ubisoft is escheating it along with two other major Ubisoft franchises to a new subsidiary partially funded by Chinese company Tencent.
The latest development on AC Shadows is when the first major update of the game was released last week. This update introduces new features to the game, including the ability to reset the Master Skill Tree.
If you’re still deciding on the latest Assassin’s Creed game, there’s an average of 82 open critics from 180 reviews. “Our reviews were not that good, as I state that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a bloated collection of uninspired quests that quickly turn into a boring grind that repeatedly and again. The art and history team deserves recognition for their efforts, but unfortunately they are unable to go anywhere, are inadequately declared, and do not satisfy the resolution.”
