Tips for new sparrow players
Many Apex Legends fans have expressed their dissatisfaction with the game’s lack of new content. Naturally, the last new legend (Alter) was released over a year ago. Thankfully, it all changed in Season 25: Prodigy.
Meet Sparrow, the latest legend to join the roster. He has a unique set of abilities that may become accustomed to getting used to, but offer incredible possibilities for the right hand. The guide below breaks down all Sparrow’s abilities and offers some tips to help you master him and lead your team to victory.
All Sparrow’s abilities explained
Like all legends in Apex Legends, Sparrow has access to three different abilities: passive, tactical and ultimate. Each is explained in detail below.
Passive Ability: Double Jump
As the name suggests, Sparrow’s passive abilities allow him to make double jumps. While in the air, press the specified jump button to pop out again. Plus, pressing the jump button when climbing the wall will propel the sparrow upwards, allowing you to easily scale tall surfaces with added momentum.
As a Bocek bow fan, Sparrow can even carry regular and explosive arrows, giving him an edge in long ranged combat.
Tactical Ability: Tracker Dirt
Sparrow’s tactical abilities underscore his role as a scouting character. He can throw tracker darts anywhere on the map.
By default, Sparrow can carry up to three tracker darts. This capacity can be increased by upgrading your armor (discussed later). Like all tactical abilities, tracker darts recharge over time. One dart is refilled every 35 seconds to the maximum capacity.
By default, only one tracker DART is active on the battlefield at a time, but you can also increase this limit to 3 with a proper armor upgrade.
Additionally, Sparrow uses tracker DART to interact remotely with the survey beacon, allowing you to scan from afar without being exposed to danger.
Ultimate Ability: Stringer Bolt
Sparrow’s ultimate ability, Stringer Bolt, is his most powerful tool. When fired onto the surface, the bolt turns itself into an arm after a short delay and acts as a trap. Enemies in that large radius take 20 damage and slow down, making them vulnerable to follow-up attacks.
By default, Sparrow can deploy one stringer bolt for each final charge. However, this number can be increased to 3 through an armor upgrade (see below).
The stringer bolt cools down for about 170 seconds.
Re-adjust your class abilities
As a reconnaissance legend, Sparrow has access to class-specific abilities, but while not as flashy as his core kit, it is still incredibly valuable and should not be overlooked.
Sparrow can interact with survey beacons scattered throughout the map. Once activated, these beacons reveal the locations of all nearby enemies on the map.
When aiming for vision, Sparrow gains a vision of threat.
Sparrow armor upgrade
Sparrow’s armor upgrade works just like any other legend. Enhanced EVO Shield to Level 2 allows you to choose one of the two available upgrades. Once you reach level 3 you have another option from two even more powerful upgrades.
Important: Once an upgrade is selected, it cannot be changed for the remaining matches.
Tier 1 Upgrade (Level 2 EVO Shield)
- Hunt Target: Sparrows get a temporary speed boost when they sprint towards marked enemies.
- Extra Traps: You can increase Sparrow’s tactical abilities with one additional tracker DART, and have two more active tracker DARTs in the field at the same time.
Tier 2 Upgrade (Level 3 EVO Shield)
- Life Siphon: When enemies are damaged by Stringer Bolts, Sparrow heals both health and shield over time. This makes his ultimate not only aggressive, but also a powerful sustain tool.
- Alternate modes: Instead of a single stringer bolt, Sparrow gains access to three small things. Each transaction will cause multiple damage in a short period of time, but reduces the radius.
Tips for new sparrow players
Now that you understand how Sparrow works, there are a few tips and tricks that will help you secure a more consistent victory.
-
Both the tracker DART and Stringer Bolt are destructible. The tracker DART’s HP is very low and the stringer bolt can withstand magazines or two fires before it is destroyed.
-
Place the tracker darts on the wall instead of the ground. The enemy must aim upwards to destroy them.
-
Use double jumps to scale huge walls. The jump mid climbe allows you to reach areas where most legends cannot.
-
The double jump cooldown in Sparrow is shown by a blue bar in the center of the screen.
-
The radius of the tracker DART is expressed as a blue circle before firing.
-
Pressing the melee button allows you to cancel both the tracker darts and stringer bolt firing animations.
-
There is no need to hit the survey beacon directly in the tracker DART. Simply fire it near the general area of the beacon and DART will automatically trigger the scan.
-
Use tracker dirt offensively and defensively. It’s great for looking at your side or setting up an early warning system in busy areas.
-
If you are using Shield Upgrade Tier 1, please select it Hunt the target If you prefer an offensive playstyle, speed boosts can help you close the gaps right away. If you’re leaning towards a more defensive approach, go with it Extra trapprovides better map control and increases Intel through additional deployable traps.
-
For Shield Upgrade Tier 2, Life siphon It’s a solid choice for most players as the stringer bolt recovers 20 horsepower every time an enemy is damaged. Alternate modes It is only suitable for defensive strategies as multiple small bolts produce consistent area negation.
