After Ai Darth Vader was released on Fortnite, Epic announced plans to allow people to create their own AI NPCs with the comprehensive Battle Royale.
Ai Darth Vader hit Fortnite last month. He can serenade you, join the team and leave freely, respond wisely to players, issue improvisational dialogues, summarise gameplay events, and warn players if something is about to go down.
Darth Vader is voiced by the distinctive James Earl Jones. He passed away in September 2024 93 years old. His voice for this AI version, powered by Google’s Gemini 2.0 Flash model and ElevenLabs’ Flash V2.5, will be used with permission from the Jones family.
Within an hour of the feature being released, Fortnite players controlled Vader to say that it was very related to the dark side, including the oath. The epic patched it quickly.
It appears that Ai Darth Vader was just the beginning. In Unreal 2025 state, Epic has announced plans to release new tools for creators to build their own AI-driven NPCs in Fortnite (UEFN) Unreal Editor. As shown on stage, creators can use their new Persona devices to create characters with personality that players can speak to. You can select the type of audio and distribution you need for an NPC, as well as its characteristics.
“We take what we learn from Darth Vader and share the underlying technology with the creator community,” Epic said.
Meanwhile, famous IPs have appeared on UEFN, including June 27 Squid Game, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and the official Star Wars features, templates and assets. The LEGO BLIC Vibrick building will also be appearing on UEFN on June 17th, with a new LEGO Bloom Tycoon template.
Elsewhere in Unreal 2025, Epic and CD Projekt revealed the stunning Witcher 4 Unreal Engine 5 Tech Demo.
