If you play Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion or its recently released Oblivion Remastered, you’ll get a good idea of the opening tutorial section and its iconic “Leave the Imperial Sewers” moment. Also knowing everything about the shocking death that arrives just before your final escape, blinking, you will emerge in Cyrodil’s beautiful, open world.

The shocking death I’m talking about here is, of course, the assassination of Emperor Uriel Septim. That assassination he knows comes and agrees. Veteran fans played oblivion well enough to know it was coming at this point. However, when oblivion first emerged in 2006, it became a passing ritual that attempted to save him from the backstab of the inevitable mythical dawn that began the story.
Hundreds of arrow shots later, players quickly discover that there’s nothing they can do to save the poor old Septim without tinkering with mods and console commands. Forgetfulness only makes sense if the emperor dies first, so it stands because the Bethesda developers forced it, regardless of whether the player tried to stop it.
And now, 20 years from now, a new generation of forgetful fans are trying to save the emperor. That means I try and fail in almost the same way. The player is waiting for an assassin to come out of the shadows to kill him before stabbing the emperor, preparing a bow and arrow, but alas, that’s not good.

Some newcomers in the game didn’t even know that they were supposed to talk to the emperor in the first place, and as an endless stream of mythical fools appeared to fight the group, it became a room full of dead assassins.
Others are seeking revenge at the dawn of mythology, stacking their bodies high.
The newcomers also discover that if you don’t talk to the emperor, the assassins will just keep coming. They don’t stop. They can’t stop. They are endless.
I’ve found that I can ignore Emporer and create almost infinity for the cultists during the Hold Out section

Other players have the commands on the console to see what happens. And yes, it breaks the cutscene that should unfold after the emperor is killed.
If you’re like me, when you first played Oblivion, you tried to reload your saves to save the Emperor, and after multiple failed attempts, you gave up. In case the developers add some new results to the game, I also confess that I tried it with the remastered Oblivion, but alas, the Emperor died in 2025 just like he did years ago.
