Report: Apple May Finally Announce Vision Pro VR Controller Support Next Week

At the end of last year, rumors emerged that Apple was finally trying to add a VR motion controller to the Vision Pro, despite supporting the PSVR 2 Sense controller through an extraordinary collaboration with Sony. now, 9to5mac The project is still going well, with official news reporting next week.

The report states that Visionos will not only add official support for the Sense controller for PSVR 2, but it will also add PlayStation and Xbox gamepads.

9to5mac We were unable to confirm whether the controller update will undoubtedly be announced at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) later next week, but the Cupertino Tech giant is set to announce changes coming to Visionos 26 at WWDC.

Vision Pro has presented unique challenges for VR developers since its launch of Mixed Reality Headset in February 2024. The $3,500 XR device currently only supports hand tracking and Bluetooth accessories such as traditional gamepads, keyboards, and headphones, so start a new project with XR Studios or retroactively add hand tracking to existing games.

That’s always pointless as many games are specially designed around motion controllers. Essentially, this could set the stage for both traditional and XR games to be released on Vision Pro’s App Store.

That being said, adding a PSVR 2 controller to the Vision Pro would clearly not be a massive sales driver for an expensive headset. Spatial computer Instead of a game console. However, it is a sign that Apple may ultimately be ready to fully adopt the motion controller with cheaper versions of future headsets.

This follows a series of reports Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claims that Apple approached Sony in early 2024 and officially integrated the PSVR 2 controller. In particular, Apple confirmed that there were no plans to create or support a VR controller a few months before the reported talk.
