Red Dead Redemption 2 Reportedly Set for Nintendo Switch 2 by End of 2025 — and There's a Rumored Next-Gen Upgrade Patch, Too

a Nintendo Switch 2 port Red Dead Redemption 2 There are reports of next-gen upgrades for the PS5 and Xbox Series X and S that could potentially be out by the end of 2025

That is according to GamereActorThe source “close to Rockstar” reports that the Switch 2 version of Rockstar’s Wild West Romp is ongoing, and a “next-gen upgrade patch” is ongoing that will also improve games on the current system (Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X and S).

The details are rough, but GamereActor sources claim the port and the upgrade patch could be released later this year.

It reflects a similar claim NintendooReports that the Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 should be released for the current fiscal year of Take-Two, ending March 31, 2026. It is unclear whether the port will release digitally only or be sold as a physical version.

When it was released in 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 was considered a “masterpiece” and was awarded 10/10. Passthecontroller’s Red Dead Redemption 2 review “Red Dead Redemption 2 is a rare quality game. It’s an open world ode that is meticulously refined in the outlaw era.”

Perhaps Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to Switch 2 is not a big surprise. Following Take-Two’s latest financial results, CEO Strauss Zelnick answered questions about the support of Switch 2 publishers, saying he felt “great optimism” about Nintendo’s new platform. In fact, he said that support for Nintendo’s third-party publishers this time is better than in the past.

“We’ve launched four titles on the Nintendo Switch 2. I think this is a larger array of releases than we’ve previously offered on the new Nintendo platform,” he said. “Historically, being a third party in the Nintendo business has been a bit challenging. I think Nintendo has been very close to dealing with that. And we have a great deal of optimism about the platform, so we deal with it on a case-by-case basis when it comes to what we bring to any platform.

Specifically, Take-Two brings Civilization 7 (June 5th, release date), NBA 2K and WWE 2K series (which game, when unknown), and Borderlands 4 (September 12th). Take-Two already issued all four franchises on the Nintendo Switch, so they are not surprising inclusion. But the Zelnick quote sounds like the doors are open to other releases in the future, especially from Take-Two’s back catalogue. The GTA 6 probably won’t cut, but perhaps a GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2?
