Gearbox Entertainment has made some interesting changes Borderland 4Allows weapons to have multiple manufacturer properties, from a seamless world to licensed parts without loading the screen. But it also removes the minimap introduced from a somewhat back to its roots Border Zone 2 onwards.
CEO Randy Pitchford is working on this with Pax East (transcription via PC Gamer), and the team “created a big, funny world” and “many of what you do can be a local space, but there’s a lot of what you want to do.
The regular map is still available and players can pull it up at any time. However, the change in this direction is that the player in the gearbox “want to play the game and not play the map.” So we made a commitment and put all this investment into this compass system.
“And we put more cool stuff in there than before. We have an AI-driven type of navigation system that offers GPS on a large map to show where you can go.”
The development team is “open to thinking about things in the future,” but Pitchford asked players to “put the game first and understand the choices we made.”
Borderland 4 It will be released on September 12th for the Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. The price has not been announced yet, but Pitchford expects it to cost $80.
