  • The game is part of a long-running horror franchise where fans have a lot of respect for it.
  • Alone in the Dark 2 offers a unique horror experience that shows off the creativity of accumulation of fear, not relying solely on graphics.

PlayStation Plus members are looking forward to the new horror experience, and members of PS Extra can try one classic game for free from PS1 Days.

Sony’s latest addition comes from a long-running horror franchise that fans of the genre have a lot of respect given its legacy.

A title that Sony can quietly use is the 1996 Horror Classic Alone in the Dark 2 (thank you for Push Square!). This is created by Infogram and has nothing to do with the various franchise reboots the series has seen over decades.

There was one person in Dark Reboot in the form of a new nightmare released in 2001 on a console developed by Dark Works. That version was critically accepted, but the franchise remained dormant for seven years, so it wasn’t sold enough to guarantee a sequel. It was developed by Eden Games on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 and received mixed reviews from critics. The latest reboot comes from Peace Interactive, published by Thq Nordic and released last year. This reimagined the 1992 classic as something similar to Resident Evil, starring Hollywood star David Harbor (Stranger Things, Hellboy) as the protagonist Edward Carnby.

Unfortunately, the latest reboot didn’t get hot at retail stores, but it was well reviewed.

As for the PS1 Classic, it received generally positive reviews when it was released, but I think some of its gameplay mechanics and controls have felt a bit outdated these days.

Dark 2 may not look very well on its own, but horror fans may be happy to be surprised by it. PS1 games didn’t have the luxury of today’s modern gaming where tension building can be done mainly with graphics alone. This means that it was more creative to incite fear and fear among gamers. This can now be tested for free by players with the subscription service.
