Xbox Division boss Phil Spencer understands this and admits that the game pass is not everyone.
Phil Spencer acknowledges that the Xbox Game Pass is more suitable for those who play many games
Phil Spencer mentioned this in a new chat with Variety. The Division boss was asked how he sees the ongoing role of GamePas in the large Xbox business now.
Spencer said, “I start with the number of people playing the game. And I’ve always thought of Game Pass as another option for those who want to play. There are many business models for people who play for free. Game Pass, Game Pass is optional. Currently Consoles is a good business, so it becomes a PC. Good for business too.”
“For me, I see Game Pass as a healthy option for a particular person. It’s not for everyone. If you play one or two games a year, the Game Pass probably isn’t the right business model for you. Just buy these two games and choose it perfectly. It’s continuing to grow quite a lot. It’s a metric that I really think about for success.
It’s good to see Spencer be open about the appeal of subscription services and I agree with what he said. If you’re not actually trying to play the latest games, or if you’re just buying 1-3 games a year, you’re wasting money on your game pass. But if you play a lot, this service is a godsend and can save you hundreds, if not thousands of money each year.
Speaking of Xbox Game Pass, don’t forget that Wave 2 in April has begun. This guides you through new titles and is highlighted by upcoming RPGs.
There are also classic games removed from the subscription service, but it’s back, it’s worth watching.
