- Bungee’s marathon may not rule out the rumoured Nintendo Switch 2 port.
- The marathon supports cross-play and mutual progression, ensuring seamless progress transfer.
- The game’s release date is set to September 23rd, and competes with Borderlands 4 on PS5, Xbox Series X | S, and PC.
This past weekend, Bungee finally revealed the project for the year, just like the studio’s first marathon.
We already know that Marathon is heading for the PS5, Xbox Series X | S, PC, but is the Nintendo Switch 2 also part of the planned release platform for extract shooters?
Marathon Switch 2 ports not excluded
Marathon Game Director Joe Zielger recently spoke with Japanese Game Publications Famitsu. There, the developer was asked about the marathon that will appear in Switch 2.
According to Ziegler (via Pocket Tactics), “At this point, we don’t have any plans to add compatible hardware, but we’ll look into that in the future.”
Given that the Switch 2 reveals AAA games like Elden Ring running on the console, horsepower may not be a deterrent, but we can’t say for sure. That said, the omitted Zielger for technical limitations as a cause is a good indication that the doors on the Marathon Switch 2 ports have not yet been closed.
Thankfully, marathons have been confirmed to support cross-play and mutual progression, so if the title appears on Switch 2 and someone wants to jump to the platform, they can take over the progress.
If you want to try the marathon early, the closed alpha test is set to kick off on April 23rd, and the PC requirements for running it are revealed today.
The Switch 2 release was announced on June 5th, but the latest rumors show GameStop stocks are very limited.
The marathon is scheduled to be released on September 23rd on the PS5, Xbox Series X | S, and PC. It will be released on the same day as Borderlands 4. This should be an interesting battle.
