summary
- The HD remaster of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess can still be switched between 2.
- The GameCube app on Switch 2 does not rule out Wind Waker HD’s arrival on the platform.
- Other Nintendo Switch Online games paid for an expanded version like the Super Mario 64.
Nintendo has confirmed that one of the lost legends of Zelda Remaster could come to Switch 2 despite it being shown on the system in its original form, so one of the last Wii U exclusive rights that appeared to be stuck there recently is still coming back.
Almost all Wii U Exclusive are available on the Nintendo Switch, with several holdouts, such as the Star Fox Zero, being bound by hardware. The big exception to this is the Legend of Zelda HD Remaster: Windowwaker and the Twilight Princess. These looked like simple ports, but still trapped in the Wii U
Since Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is one of the GameCube titles for Nintendo Switch 2, fans assumed this was Death Knell from HD remaster. However, it was confirmed by the rather entertaining gaming YouTube channel (via Video Game Chronicle) that the HD version of Wind Waker is still on the table.
Wind Waker HD is not canned by the GameCube app on Switch 2
According to Tim Gettys, a slightly funny game, they spoke with Nate Bifuldorf, senior vice president of product development in America, and asked about the fate of Wind Waker HD. Bihldorff said it could still appear on the platform.
If Wind Waker HD is released on Nintendo Switch 2, it is not the first time the game has been available on both Nintendo Switch Online and paid releases. The Super Mario 64 is now available in its original format, but the expanded version was available for purchase as part of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars.
It’s still surprising that Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD remasters are not available on the Switch. It’s still surprising, especially considering the system has plenty of drying periods for easy use of simple ports. Hopefully, if they leave the Wii U one day, they will be available on both the Switch and their successors, allowing as many people as possible to play the best versions of those games.
