Good news: Switch 2 game key cards will not be locked to the first account or console that uses them.
Sasaki, general manager of Nintendo’s technology development division, said, “It is not tied to an account or other way as it starts on a console or system where the (game key card) is a slot.
Unlike regular game cartridges, the game keycard will allow access to the digital download of the game in question when inserted into Switch 2.
“Game key cards are different from regular game cards because they do not contain regular game data,” explains Nintendo’s support page. “Instead, a game key card is a ‘key’ that downloads the entire system to the system via the Internet. After downloading, you can play the game by inserting the game key card into the system and launching it like a standard physical game card. ”
Nintendo has yet to say which games will be released with game key cards or why, but the general speculation is seen as a way to distribute games that have grown too big against the Switch 2’s 64GB cartridge, softening those who continue to push onto the entire digital future. Unfortunately, there are no signs of a game key card cheaper than a regular physical cartridge. You may have heard of it, Mario Kart World It cost a whopping $80, before Trump’s tariff announcement. And you will need an internet connection for the first download.
Switch 2 will be released worldwide on June 5th.
