The whirlwind will end in 2024 and you will be able to greet various x of your X/favorite x/suc, including the best Call of Duty over the years, the amazing Silent Hill 2 remake, the new Dragon Age, the new Assassin’s Creed, Stalker 2, Metaphor: Rifantasio (Igni’s Game of the 2024), and the Indian Jones Game. Here is a list of staff members for the 25 best games on Xbox Series X | S. That is, it was released directly for this generation of Xbox consoles. or Updated to take advantage of improved resolution, frame rates and other features. Please note that we blocked new additions as of the end of September 2024 to avoid the tragedy of the latest bias. But don’t worry, they will be considered for future rankings!
But what does “Best” mean? To be very clear, this is not an attempt at a “objective” ranking that is lined up uncontroversially with the tastes of all types of gamers. It will never exist, sadly. If one person’s epic RPG masterpiece is another’s boring and inexplicable slogan, they never look to where the game should rank against others in different genres. Even a personal list of two people who love the same type of game is rarely lined up accurately.
Instead, this is the list of games recommended by the Xbox Gamers Passthecontroller crew as a group, and using the main reranking tool, they have come to equally consider the games that everyone should place above the rest of the game. It is presented in the spirit of recognizing the games we love and encouraging others to try them out if they are not.
There are only 25 slots full and there are plenty of amazing recent games out there that are floating on the top, but that doesn’t mean we don’t think it’s great either! Everyone who voted for the poll has a long list of personal favorites who didn’t get enough traction to make the cut. We recommend creating your own playlist of your favorite Xbox Series x | s games and sharing it in the comments below.
The latest game updates took place on March 25th, 2025.
Best Xbox Details:
twenty five. Resident Evil 2
The remake version of Resident Evil 4 is a favorite of Passthecontroller staff in the series, but Resident Evil 2 isn’t that late. It’s absolutely gorgeous to see the best moments of the legendary Zombie Sleigh series to date. This modernization brings all the best parts of the classic Resident Evil game to newcomers, allowing you to experience a place with features such as original characters, enemies, ammunition crafts, over-shoulder cameras, and expandable stock slots. For the series’ veterans, it’s familiar with iconic RPD, overturning expectations in a unique and scary way, and even Easter eggs are scattered throughout the Racoon City Police Station. The tension created by Mr. X is obviously chasing you, creating some of the series’ best unscripted horror. His presence alone will lead to repeated additional playthroughs and will not sustain fear.
twenty four. Hitman: The World of Assassinations
It’s too good to pass on seeing all the scenarios in Hitman: World of Assassination, a banner in one of IO Interactive’s recent Hitman trilogy. The cold-blooded, often hilarious troubles that you cause as Agent 47 are virtually no end, as all the rich, challenging, and highly renewable sandboxes are all fingertips. To track the amazingly imaginative opportunity of assassination, you need to look into all NOOKs and CRANNYs, and carefully observe all of the NPCs. There is one of the biggest and most satisfying thrills of the game.
twenty three. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2
Delivering an unexpected and highly welcome sequel to Relic Entertainment’s 2011 Warhammer 40K Space Marine, Saber picked up Chainsaw Sord and ran, breaking a wave of enemies in the highly satisfying Tyrannid. Its slow, stable third-person action has clear roots in Classic Gear of Wargames, but this is not a cheap knockoff. It creates your own ideas when you and your cooperative team face off against a huge horde of enemies and face the distinctive look and feel of the Warhammer 40K (all that was influenced about all the power am am o a spa salina designs from decades ago).
twenty two. Wolfenstein2: The new Colossus
BJ Blazkowitz’s 2017 alternative historic Nazi Curb-StompRomp has been updated to bring full glory to Xbox Series X and is absolutely maintained. Between the insane joy of blowing a machine gun with one hand and the other shotgun, the fantastic place in America occupied by fascists, and the absolute demonic villain of opposition – General Engle is an absolutely non-stop shooter we’ve never seen recently. It doesn’t look like the kind of game that can have a mind under everything, but the story also does an amazing job of establishing its supporting cast and humanizing even murder machines like BJ.
twenty one. Unicorn Overlord
The first thing that stands out when starting Unicorn Overlord is the impressive 2.5D art style, with the characters appearing to be floating mostly over the background of the storybook. While you deserve to create this top 25 list with Took Alone (Screams to the best looking food in the game), it is paired with a great team-based combat system that blends traditional turn-based strategy gameplay with RTS mechanics to explore tabletop-inspired overworlds, gather resources, discover secrets and rebuild the nation of tone. Tactics take place when you move your team to some of the best and most creative maps in a strategy game and decide how to figure out which type of team to create and deploy. There are over 40 classes and a huge amount of build variety to choose from 70 characters to form a specialized team. These diverse characters come from a variety of backgrounds and races, from more common humans and elves to Wellerion, giants and angels, and that is the basis of the strongest moments in the story.
20. Midnight Sun in Marvel
XCOM developer Firaxis’ view on Marvel Superhero Combat is challenging and refreshing thanks to its deck-building approach to turn-based brawls. Keep it fresh, evolved and unpredictable over the course of an epic length campaign by combining signature moves to create a series of cards that allow the hero to work as a team by defeating supernatural enemies. It also looks good, and it’s endlessly interesting to slam enemies into things and increase damage. If you’re interested in conversations that build persona-style relationships, there’s plenty to discover when chatting with Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, and even more favorites during the fight. If not, you can skip most of it and go back to the action.
19. Doom Eternal
Is Doom better forever than 2016 Doom? That argument will forever be furious, but for this list, that doesn’t matter because Doom (tragically) was not updated for the series X/s. This will make this generation champions a sweet and sweet default to this generation champions. The current standard bearer of the first-person first-person space demon marcher series played is fast, punchy, gloriously gorey, and has been one of the best single-player shooters for years. Featuring excellent weapons, abilities, secrets and enemies, this is a game that continuously teaches you how to play faster, smarter and more efficiently.
18. Resident Evil 4
At the same time, one of the latest and oldest games on this list, the 2023 remake of Resident Evil 4 in 2005, became a standout action horror classic of the original, modernising modern gamers, adding the thrills to the same as those who have always seen them through rose-colored glasses. Rebuilt from scratch, the story quickly leads through a series of unwavering, impressive action sequences, which builds tension in high-intensity combat against a cast of ferocious creatures, infusing the world of Resident Evil into rich details. There have been many games that have tried to evoke the style of RE4 over the years, but none of them nailed it like this.
17. Person 3 reload
With a great visual overhaul and countless small changes and additions beyond, Persona 3 reloads the beloved RPG in a more fully realized version. While there are still dates next to Persona 5 in a few ways, the quality of life improvements and new features refresh the exciting turn-based combat and add depth to touching story moments. Through an incredibly new voice cast that embodies these unforgettable characters and their affectionate soundtracks to replenish their identities, Persona 3 Reload tells a powerful, timeless story of tragedy and hope with keen emotional integrity over the course of a 70-hour campaign of meat. This is the kind of remake we’ve always wanted.
16. The Prince of Persian: The Lost Crown
All other games that have come out recently seem to have at least a bit of Metroidvania design, so it’s rare to stand out in such a crowded genre. Still, Prince of Persia: Lost Crown is a side-scrolling platformer that stacks up the ability to reach new areas on truly huge maps, and absolutely nails everything you can want. In addition to all the standard movements and features (double jumps, dashes, equipable amulets), there are plenty of fun and innovative things, including the ability to teleport across the room to avoid death in boss battles at tough times. You will introduce those movements at a satisfying, stable pace, so by the time you reach the challenges of bosses and teeth-tight environments in the second half of the game, you are basically an expert, playing the instrument and navigate obstacles that make it all look simple.
15. Devil May Cry 5
With all of its imitators, there’s still no such thing as the Devil Main Cry game. Devil May Cry 5 is taller as one of the best in its own series, as well as one of the full stops, one of the best character action games ever created. Other games offer the same level of creativity and expression throughout the battle whether you’re playing as Nero and bouncing enemies in the air along with the Gerbera Devil Breaker. Or, chill as a V while your summoned Familia fights around you. Or hot swapping between the entire weapon of the weapon and the fighting style as Dante. The depth of the battles in DMC5 is endlessly fun to play in near-bottomless state.
14. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
Among Assassin’s Creed Games on the three (soon to be 4) Xbox Series X-Generation, Assassins’ Creed Odyssey is more head and shoulders than others. This epic takes Origins’ fighting style, focusing on roleplay, adds some extra ingredients to the mix, and sets it all in the vast background of ancient Greece, a global presence with the war between Athens and Sparta. It’s a huge, vibrant game, with some of the most amazing views we’ve seen in the series on both land and sea (yes, Navy Wars are in the mix, and it’s fantastic).
We believe that the unique spin on the Assassin’s Creed’s Natoriety System is scurried through these environments in a series of cats and mice tracking that sets new standards for the series. There’s also a relatively fascinating story to the game, which can take 60 hours to play, with some quirky side quests with a true charismatic protagonist (whether or not to play as a male or female version) at the foreground. Even after finishing the main Odyssey story, there is still plenty to plunder and discover. It is also a joy to be present in its meticulous, recreated historical world.
13. ForzaHorizon5
Forza Horizon 5 It’s not just Best Games of 2021 (as the winner of Passthecontroller’s 2021 Game of the Year), it is also at least the best car game of the past decade, the period. The difference between Horizon 5 and other racing games (not named Forza Horizon) is that they are actually driving games. And yes, there is a difference between driving and racing games. Driving can include racing – and the FH5 is undoubtedly – but perhaps the greatest of many wins is tapping someone’s love for a car well. It doesn’t have to be a gearhead with a nose to adjust tire temperature and maximize downforce, like a simulation racer.
Here, there’s literally fun in every corner, whether you’re trying to best your Buddy’s photo radar speed, breaking one of Horizon’s myriad billboards scattered across gorgeous fictional Mexico, entering the right horizon festival event, or having a goofy multiplayer event. The Forza Horizon 5 is as cold and casual as you would like, or serious and hardcore, a feat that almost impossible for any car.
12. Alan Wake 2
It took me 13 years to get a sequel to my favorite thriller from the cult Alan Wake It’s far from the ground, but it was worth it. The studio, which was billed as Remedy’s first True Survival Horror game, is best known for its high-concept cinematic approach by creating Alan Wake’s horrifying chapters and new protagonist Saga Anderson’s Stories. Horror fans will find a nervous, frightening experience, but those waiting to learn what happened that woke up years ago will want to check out the sequel to Remedy soon.
11. Remnant 2
“Dark Souls with Guns” was the theme of the first remnants, with the remaining two doubling that idea to blow up more guns, classes, and more enemies. Each playthrough is different thanks to the way in which Remnant 2 randomizes most puzzles, bosses and events each time you play it. And you’ll probably want to play a lot of Remnant 2, as you may need to defeat bosses in multiple ways to get that most attractive reward. The fact that two players can finish the campaign and fight different bosses along the way (or they see the same boss but may get different rewards) is just as fun as playing. Since its launch, two large DLC packs have been added with more storylines, weapons, classes, gear and crazy bosses. Remnant 2 is one of the games we’re always back with thanks to its high replayability, creative design, fun gameplay, and the ability to play easily with friends.
10. Halo: Master Chief Collection
Halo: Master Chief Collection Currently collecting 6 Hello Games under one digital roof. Hello 5: Guardian. It was demolished by studs, rebuilt in an epic way, and even better, the Xbox Series X upgrade has been upgraded again with support for 120FPS gameplay. It’s crazy to think these games were 480i/30fps the first time I played them…
Check out our guide on how to play Hello Game Before jumping into the collection.
9. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
The sequel to Respawn in Hit Star Wars: The Jedi: Fallen Order continues the Cal Kestis journey as he fought the Empire through the galaxy. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Improves almost all the elements at the beginning, improving the level design and combat to the sharpest points. It is also one of the best ways to explore the Star Wars universe in the latest era. See the list of The best star wars games To see where it ranks.
8. Hades
Hades is the current gold standard in the Logelite genre and is not nearby either. From exhilarating combat to incredible soundtracks, to clever, well-written stories with characters who seem to never say anything meaningful, to deep, innovative postgames that you want to get back even more after defeating the final boss.
It can be incredibly difficult, but it doesn’t punish defeat. Dying is part of the fun and in fact brings you unique rewards in the form of new conversations with cast of attractive characters, new opportunities to buy game change upgrades, and brand new running opportunities with completely new and respectful bounty that will dramatically change the way you approach combat. Hades is a masterclass in Roguelite’s design, and is another example of how the supermassive game hasn’t missed.
Hades 2 early access is now available.
7. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition
One of the best RPGs of all time is better than ever thanks to graphics overhaul The Witcher 3 Complete version. 4K graphics fans are now able to play the game with higher fidelity, but it could be a way to advance performance modes as it smooths out all the rough frame rate patches of this massive game, making this 100+ hour adventure smoother like butter.
6. Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 It came out of the gate especially during launch on the console. RPGs have always been the cutting edge wonder of PCs, but it took several years to optimize console games like the Xbox Series X | S. After cutting out the last generation of systems and a series of free updates, CyberPunk 2077 and newly released expansion, Phantom LibertyFinally, it shines brightly on Xbox. With best-in-class presentations, a deep and challenging RPG system and one of the best story CD Projekt ever created, it’s finally time to hack into Cyberpunk 2077.
5. Grand Theft Auto 5/GTA Online
Grand Theft Auto 5’s vast yet detailed maps are the hiber that most open world games aspire to. It’s not only huge, but it’s not just about driving and shooting and the three protagonist stories that make up the campaign, but not limited to many side activities, but also to all the sights, sounds and bustling activities you’d expect to find in a human-filled city, but also very dense with great content. As both a single-player game and Grand Theft Auto Online, there’s a lot to do, explore and play, so it’s really amazing on multiple levels.
For the following, Rockstar has officially confirmed that GTA 6 will be released in 2025: It features a return to Vice City and stars in the series’ first female playable character in a Bonnie & Clyde-inspired adventure.
4. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
Describe like a dragon: Infinite wealth sounds like a dream of heat. It’s a collection of mini-games packed into larger activities inspired by classics such as Crazy Taxi, Pokemon Snap, Pokemon and Animal Crossings. Miraculously, this somehow works together and balances it to celebrate roots like the Dragon/Yakza series, whilst continuing to move it forward. This can be seen in almost every aspect. Most obviously, the majority of the story takes place outside of Japan, exploring Hawaii instead.
Meanwhile, turn-based combat has made a comeback from Yakuza 7 and boasts more work (Tennis Ace OP!) and small improvements that stay true to the Yakuza’s traditional beat M-up style, while also significantly increasing the amount of control and customization in combat. In the series known for Heartfelt Stories, Infinite Wealth’s is undoubtedly the most emotional, paying homage to the franchise’s classic characters with a plot driven by the values and actions of the new cast. Mixing old and new characters often backfires in long-term series, but RGG Studios cleverly blends the stories of Kiryu and Ichiban, pulling apart one of the best legacy stories anywhere.
3. People 5 Royal
Persona 5 Royal had little real competition in the contest for the title of the greatest Japanese RPG ever. Its endlessly stylish art and unforgettable jazzy soundtrack create an atmosphere that is difficult to fall in love. And that’s before we reached an iconic, loving character that has become more relevant every year since its first release in 2016, and a cast of unexpected, deep, thought-provoking stories.
All of this can be said about the original version of 2016, but from dialogue to dungeon exploration, it’s gotten bigger in almost everything in the royal family. It’s far from just a remaster with some neat extras. It’s like getting another whole game on top of an already great game.
2. Gate 3 of Baldur
Gate 3 of Baldur Thanks to robust storytelling and almost endless player freedom, it is the best computer RPG of any generation. Whether it’s romancing a mind flayer or persuading squirrels to start a fight, what’s why Larien Studios’ latest RPGs have captivated so many players is the ability to play the Gate of Baldur on your own terms.
In particular, the cast of characters shines through in this party-based RPG. The mates in this game are some of the most fun and fully realized characters in RPGs, and while Baldur’s Gate 3 is already hundreds of hours long, you’ll want to try and re-roll as many new characters as possible from this deep, rich fantasy world.
Multiple winners Game of the Year AwardLarian Studios has independently energized the computer RPG genre, showing that ingenuity and smart game design could win the most powerful graphics.
1. Elden Ring
Whether you’re a longtime Software infamous game fan or are intrigued by the constant buzz, Elden Ring is a great starting point for seeing what the Soulsborne genre is. Its streamlined introduction, versatility to accommodate your playstyle choices, and open world design all do everything to alleviate the “brick wall” dilemma of getting caught up in a difficult boss in the Dark Souls game. What makes this Software Adventure A (slightly) friendly is filled with divine bosses trying to erase your life and take on a big map threateningly, while still resilient, full of charming NPCs filled with charm, mystery and tragedy.
It earned the Notch thanks to the outstanding shadows of the Erdtree DLC extension, which serves as a condensed version of the main game, absolutely jam packed with secrets, precious treasures, super challenging boss fights, and the horrifying monsters you face every time. Stack it on top of the main game and it’s a high quality test of an incredible amount of temperament like your soul.
