Civilization 7 developer Firaxis has outlined the game’s important update 1.1.1. This is a hit when recently released strategy games have fewer Steam players than Civilization 6 or Civilization 5 at 15.

On Valve’s platform, Civilization 7 has a 24-hour simultaneous peak player count of 16,921. This isn’t enough to be in Steam’s top 100 most played games. The 24-hour peak of Civilization 5, released in 2010, was 17,423. Obviously, most Civing fans are stuck with the 2016 Civilization 6, but they had a 24-hour peak with 40,676 players.

In a Steam post, Firaxis listed some of the “additions and improvements” that come with update 1.1.1, such as:

  • Quick Move Function
  • New natural wonder Mount Everest
  • Additional UI updates and polishes
  • Reconciliation and Commander’s name change
  • And more!

In the more detailed video, lead designer Ed Beach pointed to the complete patch notes as he ran through the change.

Civilization 7 Update 1.1.1 Patch Notes:

Quick Move now has an option that can be switched in the game menu. Units move to their destinations quickly, allowing you to play the game faster.

Another major update is the new start position option related to map generation. The new default for single-player games is standard. This feels like a Civ 6 where the continent is more diverse and less predictable. For multiplayer games, balanced settings are preserved and players can be placed on equal arenas with a more consistent map.

You can now reconciliation and commander names. (Historical accuracy will be damned!) Now you can restart the game with just the click of a button and get that complete first payment. Just like with Civ 6, it recreates the map with a new seed, but with the same leader and siving choices.

Regarding UI improvements, city and town panels will remain open when you buy things. There are new notifications that appear when one of the cities is under attack, new indicators of the crisis, and better hints for resource tools. There are also major pacing changes.

Civilization 7 has proven to be a controversial game among several veterans of the new mechanic, and is clearly struggling with Steam (the console maker won’t reveal player numbers). Civ 7 has a “mixed” user review rating on Valve’s platform and received 7/10 from Passthecontroller reviews.

In a recent interview with Passthecontroller, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick admitted that Civilization 7 received several negative reviews from reports and playershowever, claimed that the “Legacy Civic Audience” would come around so much they played, calling the early performances of Civilization 7 “very encouraging.” Oh, and if you’re wondering Gandhi still has hope.
