Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 is officially under development.
Publisher Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive have joined forces again after the huge success of last year’s Space Marine 2, which sold 5 million copies.
“We are pleased to announce that the development of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 has been officially launched at Focus Entertainment, Saber Interactive and Games Workshop,” reads the statement. “We’re sharing the latest updates on this new title. For now, we’re focusing on providing the best possible experience for Space Marine 2 players.”
There are no real details about what to expect from Space Marine 3, but Focus has released the image below confirming Titus’s return, but there was no doubt about it. According to Games Workshop, Space Marine 3 boasts a “all-new immersive campaign and multiplayer mode,” but again, there was no doubt about that either.
Focus says Space Marine 3 “Promises an even more immersive experience, and is committed to staying faithful to the Warhammer 40,000 universe, fierce, brutal and epic gameplay.”
“We’re committed to providing a range of services to our customers,” said John Bert, associate CEO of Focus Entertainment Publishing.
“We will continue to support the game with exciting content and regular updates for the coming years. Today, we are excited to announce that the adventure will continue in Space Marine 3. Players look forward to innovations that redefine the standards for immersive campaigns, multiplayer modes and third-person action games. Even more spectacular.”
“Space Marine 2 has proven to be Saber’s transformational game,” added Matthew Karch, CEO of Saber Interactive.
“It’s the culmination of everything we’ve learned about game development in 25 years in business. We’re now starting to develop Space Marine 3, a game that’s highly anticipated from a rapidly expanding fanbase. Warhammer 40.000 Universe.”
Some Space Marine 2 fans may be concerned about the timing of the launch of Space Marine 3, which will take place just six months after the release of Space Marine 2, but Games Workshop says Space Marine 3 is “probably a few years away from its release.”
“The good news for all of Space Marine 2 fans is that we’ve still had years of support,” Games Workshop added. “Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment are tirelessly working to introduce an astounding lineup of new missions, additional upgrades and even more enemies to the business end of the bolt rifle.
Greenlight on Space Marine 3’s Greenlight is hardly surprising given how well Space Marine 2 went. Speaking to Passthecontroller following the launch of Space Marine 2, Saber Interactive Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits said it could be a Story DLC, revealing that the idea for Space Marine 3 is already on the rise.
It strongly suggests continuance without ruining the Space Marine 2 campaign (Passthecontroller reports on the enemy facts that are likely seen in Space Marine 3).
“Our game director Dmitry Grigorenko, he suggested the idea for a story, either DLC or a sequel,” Willit said at the time. “Yes, yes, yes! There are so many different factions… there are other chapters too. That’s interesting…”
