Obsidian Entertainment avowed It was launched last month for the Xbox Series X/s and PC, along with Game Pass, following many delays and nasty reports. The critical reception was pretty strong (I gave 8 out of 10 in reviews), but neither the studio nor Microsoft provided updates on sales numbers or player numbers.

Director Carrie Patel lacks “really solid metrics,” but she revealed to Eurogammer that the studio and “Xbox and Microsoft level” studios are happy with the results. “I’m certainly very happy and all the people I’ve spoken to, both at the studio level and at the Xbox and Microsoft level, are very pleased with the reception to our game.

“But knowing that some people are coming to our games through Game Pass, some of them are buying on different platforms. I don’t know there’s one specific metric or number I can give you.” Nevertheless, considering six years of development and two major reboots, it’s a miracle that it’s been released in such a state.

With that in mind, Patel hopes Obsidians will do more to the game world. “We wanted to do it more because we built this amazing world and built this team’s strength and muscle memory around the content and gameplay of this world.” The team said, “We really know and love this world, and have learned an incredible amount of how to make truly powerful RPGs together over the past four years, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

In the meantime, several developers have “moved to the next project”; Outer World 2. Obsidian’s highly acclaimed 2019 RPG follow-up, with over 5 million players, will be released later this year for the Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. The release date is still pending, so check out more news and updates.
