Monster Hunter Wilds has appeared as one of the most popular games of the year to date, setting records for both the series and Capcom. According to series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto, the reason for its popularity comes down to its story, immersion and cross-play.
Tsujimoto spoke to Nikkei about Monster Hunter Wild (via Automaton). According to the producers, the biggest factors that have influenced the popularity of the new Monster Hunter are their focus on storyline, immersion (quoting Wild fully expresses), and cross-play.
While that may sound a little strange, Monster Hunter Wild has an incredible interest in the story and the “why” behind all the monster hunts. In addition to obvious points such as cutscenes and a substantial cast of characters, the low-ranking section of the campaign moves quite a bit at a pace.

In my review of Passthecontroller’s Monster Hunter Wilds, we pointed out a lot. The trekking to the initial credit roll is a little shorter than you would normally expect, but the intent felt like it wanted more players to go through the campaign and see the luxury content.
If the player number is anything, it may be working. Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter Wiles will be the fastest Capcom game ever, surpassing the 8 million units sold in three days. At launch, Monster Hunter Wilds charted over 1 million simultaneous players on Steam, helping Valve storefronts crack 40 million simultaneous player marks.
Monster Hunter Wilds is scheduled for its first major release update in early April. Title Update 1 adds monsters of “Fortunate Strength” at a level above Tempreed, as well as endgame areas where you can gather. There were already patches for the Monster Hunter Wilds, but they mostly deal with bugs and immediate issues.
