All JRPG fans know about the teenager’s party tricks to help his mother and leave the house, and by the end of the adventure they are killing Gods and other gods.
The thing is, many of these mystical creatures, like our party members, appear harmless at first, whether they take the human form or appear on a small scale.
but, After we defeat their first form, it’s when they reveal their second or third formtransform into something grotesque and massive, or transform into something oddly epic and beautiful.
In this list, we highlight some of the best polyphase JRPG bosses we have faced in our epic adventures. Some are simply difficult, some are memorable, but everything deals with defeat.
Future spoilers. We recommend that you pay attention.
10 infinite
Breath of Fire IV
First and final battle with Fou-Lu Breath of fire IV Ryu puts him in a one-on-one battle with his other half, trying to prove that he has grown through his journey with humans.
Unconvinced, fou-lu gives the young dragon a choice: join him or perish with humanity. If the player refuses to unite, we face the strongest form of Fou-Lu, Tyrant, leading to a good outcome.
But I included Breath of Fire IV Because of what happens if a player chooses to join Fou-Lu. in this case, Ryu is absorbed and together they become Infini, the best dragon.
The worst (best) part? We actually control Infini and fight against our party members in a completely one-sided battle. No matter how hard Nina and her crew struggle, there is no way they can win. And we are ultimately forced to kill all our friends. Damn, I regret putting this entry.

Final Fantasy Tactics
From wiegraf Final Fantasy Tactics It is one of the most angry multiphase bosses of all time. He is the most soft rock in JRPG history.. know. I was there. I’m a stupid young person. Who will place Ramza as a white magician?
For those who don’t realize it, for some Final Fantasy Tactics There is a chain battle in battle. In other words, you can only leave after all encounters. In the case of Riovanes Castle, there are three battles, the last one against Weegraf.
If you were using only one save slot, you would reach the final battle and for some reason you would either defeat Wiegraf in his human form or beat him as Belias. You can’t go back and grind. You can play with the cards dealt or try again.
The problem is that the first fight is a one-on-one duel between Ramza and Weegraf, abuses Monk’s skills to deal high damage from afar. Veteran players can easily win by cheese in battles, but are they newcomers? They should hope that Ramza has an evolved offensive job to beat Wiegraf’s face or have a backup save.
8 Nyx Avatar
Person 3 reload
Do you want a multi-stage battle? How about phase 14? That’s the number of variations Nyx Avatar has Persona 3, portable Version or Reload Remake.
Honestly, design-wise, the battle with NYX is amazing and perfectly tied to the game’s story. The adversaries take on all 14 arcanas and deliver consistently the philosophical lines associated with each.
However, when it comes to gameplay, unfortunately, Nyx Avatar shifts Arcana, so it doesn’t change the appearance. Ultimately, the fight feels more dragged than anything else. Luckily, you can hear a remix of the Velvet Room theme.
Contextically, boss battles earn their place on this list. The Knicks finishing in the Arcana of Death is too symbolic just before that, and the protagonist faces their deaths.
7 Luca Bright
Suikoden II
Luca Bright is one of the most despicable villains in JRPG history and is one of the reasons for this. Suikoden II It is a masterpiece from the PS1 era and a modern masterpiece with its re-release.
The insane prince is an evil incarnation. He was not shaped by the tragic living circumstances or the heartbreaking backstory that twisted his mind towards destruction and massacre. Luke kills him because he enjoys it.
Although Luka only has one form, it appears to overturn the meaning of the multiphase boss as he fights four times to reflect how strong and dangerous he is. We fight him three times with different parties before ending in a duel with the hero.
As the battle progresses, Lucas is increasingly abused. What’s worse, he’s not even the ultimate boss Suikoden II. The actual final boss is not someone no one remembers, but rather how unforgettable Luke Bright is as an antagonist.
6 Jas Absolute
Fantasy
When I played it for the first time Fantasy Appearing on Apple Arcade, I called it something like a turn-based JRPGS soul. That’s because the game is cruelly difficult, but learning the enemy patterns makes it easier to manage.
That didn’t stop me from spending almost five hours challenging my ultimate boss, Jas. Antagonists have three final formsand the last one is one of the most difficult final bosses I’ve faced in JRPGs. But that’s because I was playing Fantasy Like a turn-based game.
The ultimate boss requires you to use all the abilities available to practice everything you learn. in FantasyYou can exchange party members at any time, and the game encourages you to do so.
Buffs, debuffs, healing, items – everything about your weapons should be used here. Despite struggling like noobs at all, I think Jas is one of the best final bosses in a turn-based JRPG.
5 Louis Giabalun (Destroyer Charadrius)
Metaphor: Liperment
I love the final boss fight Persona. However, most villains reveal themselves at the last minute, so the showdown doesn’t have much of an impact.
Metaphor: Liperment Do the opposite. From the start of the game, we know who the antagonist is, so when Louis faces off in his multiform (which of which is as strange as you would expect from the final boss of the JRPG).
The first stage is against the general version of Archdemon Louis, as if he were fused with the archetype. In the second phase, He takes up the entire screen and transforms into the destroyer Charadrius.each of which expresses emotions with three masks.
After destroying the mask, Louis reveals the hardest form ever, the destroyer Charadrius. The boss attacks at least 5 times per turn, giving debuffs and negative status effects, and hits like a track. He’s not difficult yet Metaphor: Lipentadio He’s a secret boss, but it’s pretty formidable.
4 Xemuras
Kingdom Hearts 2
Xemuras is one of the longest multiphase boss battles in JRPGS. First we faced him along with fellow travelers Donald and Goofy, defeating his minions and defeating him to the throne.
In the second phase, in his Draconic form, Riku and Sora chase him on an aircraft while they are about to reach an avatar that is protected among the giant creatures.
But it’s in the final stage Kingdom Hearts 2 Everything comes out. Sora and Riku fight alongside Xemuras and his Double Jedi Sabres. It’s a very enthusiastic battle, and sometimes a bit complicated, but with an epic stream that can’t be denied.
The scene in which Sora and Riku have to deflect thousands of laser attacks will make Master Yoda proud. It’s Button Spam Fest, but still incredible. It’s sublime and perfect ending to see friends wielding two keyblades that are ultimately teaming up to defeat the leaders of organization 13 Kingdom Hearts 2.
3 Sephiroth
Final Fantasy VII
I could have included almost everything Final Fantasy This list uses the most iconic one, featuring one of the most memorable soundtracks in the history of the game.
Throughout Final Fantasy VIIchases after Sephiroth. In reality, not actually he, Genoa mimics his appearance, but is probably under Sephiroth’s control.
But at the end of the game, we finally faced the true body of Sephiroth, and evolved almost into the divine age. Bizarro first and safer Sephiroth’s ending is very easy or difficult, depending on the party and level.
The most memorable part of these battles is undoubtedly the soundtrack, the One-Winged Angel. It has become one of the franchise’s most famous themes. Final Fantasy VIIand has also been featured at fashion shows. The other tracks may be more epic, but few are as memorable as the Sephiroth theme.
2 lava
Chrono Trigger
I don’t know many times to my teen self-confronted lavos, but oh, I felt I couldn’t defeat and save the final alien Chrono Trigger‘s future.
That’s why This sleazy jerk has three phases, hidden in one of the seemingly harmless minions in the last phase.. I kept deleting the humanoid version repeatedly, but went back indefinitely and didn’t know what was going on.
Still, it’s a great battle. The first version is easier. This makes you wonder at one point how Crono died. Second, it is manageable if you abuse lighting fixtures, but it is easy to manage.
But the final form, Lavos Core, looks like the ultimate villain Dragon Ball. The soundtrack becomes majestic as you travel through different eras through battle.
Whenever the central monster died and the battle was not over, deep despair washed away my young self. That’s how I knew Chrono Trigger It nailed the final challenge of the game.
1 Bahamut
Final Fantasy XVI
I’ll be happy to pay in full Final Fantasy XVI If it only features the Battle of Akon. I know there is something better from a gameplay perspective. However, the view here is so spectacular that it left a lasting impression on me.
There are around five phases in the battle with Bahamut.. That’s a lot. With each transition, conflicts escalate, stakes rise, and the story unfolds as you approach the screen.
I think the Phoenix section is a bit dragging on. This is especially true if you’re playing hard when you’re looking for platinum. But it is sufficient for me to hear both the theme of Bahamut’s ascension apart in the same battle.
This battle has all the ratios I love in the story. There are reasons for the power of the brothers, the fusion, the battles of space wars, the dragons trying to destroy the world, and more than anything, the real story that happens. It’s not just a gameplay feature; Final Fantasy XVI story.
Again, from a gameplay perspective, the Battle of Bahamut may not be the best here. But with the run, visual presentation and soundtrack, it takes a long time before another JRPG boss fight meets my expectations and steals the Dragon King crown.
