Today’s PlayStation State of Play Broadcast provided the first proper perspective to be released in 2026, the upcoming James Bond game for 007 First Light, Hitman Studio IO Interactive.
The trailer for the game introduced the fresh James Bond at the beginning of his career as an agent, joining MI6 and meeting new versions of the classic characters M, Q and Moneypenny.
The trailer also revealed the involvement of Lenny James from The Walking Dead.
The trailer for First Light reveals that this incarnation of James Bond was involved in the tragedy of his childhood, leaving him as an 11-year-old orphan, after which he spent his childhood in various British boarding schools. We later considered Bond as a young recruit in the Royal Navy, from which he was recruited by MI6.
Here, the player picks up Bond’s story as he becomes an agent, gets an Omega watch, and tries out gadgets in the lab and starts an annoying Q.
The press release, issued alongside the game’s Play of Play appearance, lists the age of the first light bond of 007 as “young 26 years old.” Players will cross the glove in what is called a “story-driven action-adventure game” where players can choose how to navigate a variety of challenges, either with Brute Force or 007 trademark charm.
What appears to be gameplay footage shows James Bond on missions to steal and use his gadgets and his fist to conquer the enemy, with the hero conquering the enemy in order to target rogue agents. “009 is a master manipulator,” Greenway says at one point. “Whatever Endgame is, we won’t see it coming.” Ah, and yes, you can wear your disguise, as you would expect from Hitman Studios.
IO Interactive’s James Bond game was first announced in 2020 as Project 007. Since then, we have learned very little about it. Still, from off, IO said it wasn’t following the events of a particular film, but developed a fresh story of James Bond origin and a completely original work.
Recently, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak said he hopes 007 First Light will be the start of a new trilogy of the game, but unfortunately the studio’s beloved hitman franchise is on hiatus while working on the game. Also, this April, I learned that 007 First Light is getting a Nintendo Switch 2 release in addition to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/s.
